3.7.1.5: Nodal Displacements

The “NodeDisp”-component lists the displacements of nodes for the load-case-selection specified via the “LCase”-input. Nodes can be chosen via position or index. In case of missing input at "Pos|Inds", results for all nodes will be listed in the order of the corresponding node indexes.

Two lists consisting of vectors make up the output at the plugs “Trans” and “Rot”. For each node there is a list of vectors which contains the nodal translations or rotations for each selected load-case (see fig. 3.7.4.1). The vectors refer to the global coordinate system. Their units are meter and radiant. A positive rotation say about the global X-axis means that the node rotates counterclockwise for someone who looks at the origin of the coordinate system with the X-axis pointing towards him or her.

The system in fig. 3.7.1.5.1. includes two load-cases: "LC0" which has mid-point loads of 2kN acting downwards and 2kN in axial direction. "LC1" comprises mid-point loads of 1kN pointing upwards and 1kN in horizontal direction. The load-case-combination "LCC" is "LC0" or "LC1", or more formally: LCC = LC0 | LC1. For nodal displacements the result selection works as follows:

No leading property chosen from the "For Displacements"-group

By default, no leading property is active when placing a new "Load-Case Selector"-component

  • If no leading property of the displacement group is chosen (like in fig. 3.7.1.5.1) the selection of "Min" or "Max" results in translation and rotation vectors whose individual components are the minimum and maximum values of all load-cases of "LCC". The first translation vector for point "3" in fig. 3.7.1.5.1 - it's the middle node of the beam - returns the vector {0.000014, 0, -0.0211221}. The X-component comes from "LC1", the Z-component from "LC0". The "LCaseInd"-output of "-1" in fig. 3.7.1.5.1. indicates, that there is no single load-case which produces the tanslation- and rotation-response since it is an envelope of minimum and/or maximum numbers-

  • In case neither "Min" nor "Max" is selected the results of all load-cases of the selected load-case-combination get output (see fig. 3.7.1.5.2). "LCaseInd" contains now the load-case indexes within the load-case-combination which corresponds to the vector results.

With leading property chosen from the "For Displacements"-group

Fig. 3.7.1.5.3 shows what happens when the translational displacement in Z-direction acts as the leading property of the displacement-result-group: in node "3" load-case "LC0" which has index 0 in "LCC" wins over "LC1". At the supports both load-cases result in zero vertical displacement. Since the selection is undecided there "LCaseInd" returns "-1".
